How a shirt should fit

Shirtonomy offers custom shirts made to your unique specifications – both in terms of fit and appearance. Our custom shirts are sewn in Portugal, in one of Europe’s leading shirt factories, and our fabrics are produced primarily in Italy, Portugal and Spain in some of the world’s most renowned weaving mills.

Shoulder width

The seam should end where the shoulder ends. If it sits too high, it will pull across the back and lats.

Sleeve length

Should end at the “dimple” by the thumb. This may feel long, but the cuff measurement determines where the sleeve ends. If the sleeve is shortened, it will ride up when you reach forward, and the cuff will disappear under a jacket sleeve.

Collar

Should allow 1–2 fingers between neck and fabric. As a rule, add 2 cm to your neck circumference. For example, if your neck measures 40 cm, order a 42 cm collar.

Sleeve width

Must not be too tight. A narrow fit shortens the lifespan of the elbows and feels restrictive. Bend your arm: if it pulls at the forearm, the width is too tight. Shirts often wear out at the elbow because of either short sleeves or narrow sleeve width.

Cuff circumference

Measure your wrist and add 3.5 cm. If you wear a watch, add another 0.5–1 cm. This ensures the sleeve ends where it should and shows properly under a jacket. If more than 1–1.5 cm of cuff shows, the jacket sleeve should be lengthened.
